Last week I went with my husband and two of our boys to a volleyball tournament out of state.

We spent lots of time watching volleyball, but had plenty of time for other fun things. We reconnected with some friends we haven’t seen in years. We met up with my parents for a fancy dinner. We went to the temple and to the movies. One of the main highlights for me though, was the beautiful fall weather! We saw trees that were green, red, and bright gold. I got to wear a sweater and use the seat warmers in the truck! Lots of little things just added up to a very fun trip for me!

On the way home, I was excited to see the kids at home. I was looking forward to sleeping in my own bed and having warm feet. As we drove past the beautiful scenery, joking with the boys in the backseat, I had the thought “I love my life!” I loved the vacation days, I loved the people I was with, and I loved what was waiting for me at home. It was a thought that created a feeling of gratitude and abundance.

When we got home at 11:00 pm, we were greeted with soggy wet carpet in our bedroom. The septic system had gotten backed up and the toilet overflowed. None of the drains worked, so we were without running water or flushing toilets for the night.

I think normally a situation like this would have felt frustrating or overwhelming for me. Or at least disappointing!

But that night, it just didn’t really bother me. I had already decided “I love my life,” and this just happens to be one little part of my great life. Sometimes the plumbing gets messed up.

I was amazed at how easy it was to handle a “tough” situation when I was looking through the lens of “I love my life.” I’ve decided it’s a lens I want to keep!

I highly recommend trying on the thought “I love my life,” and looking for evidence to back it up.
