So many of us think that we feel bad because of the things happening outside of us.

We think that if only our husband would do this one thing, we would be so much happier. Or if only our teenager would behave differently, we would feel so much more at peace. If only people would be nicer to each other on social media, we wouldn’t be so stressed out.

The problem with this kind of thinking is that it puts us in a place of powerlessness. If we have to wait for other people to change so that we can feel better, we might be waiting forever!

Fortunately, it’s not true. As President Russell M. Nelson said, “The joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives.”

Our happiness is created in our own brains. That is the best news ever, because it means we are always the ones in control of our own happiness!
